SWEET Towers
I just puchased a pair of these, and I'm amazed by the clarity of the sound. The DO have great bass - turn em up, and it feels like you are being slapped in the chest. The mids are really good to, very round and well defined. And the highs are exellent, crystal clear and not harsh at all. Very well constucted - very solid, I imagine I'll get a lifetime of use out of these babies.

Great for a strong range of bass output.
Cerwin Vega is known for it's refinement of bass in speaker sets, but I must say that the pair of these that I own are pretty good at mids and even good with the highs as well. I don't know much about speaker design but I am certain that I am getting the fullness of bass from these speakers with my music system. I run my source signal from my PC out of the sound card using a cord with a jack for the sound card that on the other end becomes RCA jacks into the amplifier (which is an Onkyo A-9555). I am running the amp in A/B mode to run four speakers. I bought a pair of Klipsch F2 speakers recently, but the depth of bass I desired was clearly going to come from the bigger woofer of the Cerwin Vegas. Some people think all you need to do is add a subwoofer, but I disagree with that notion. Subs are good for deep driving bass punches but serve very little in developing bass intricacies. This speaker rocks!
I have a pair of these connected to a Harman Kardon AVR354 and they rock the house! They live up the Cerwin Vega reputation. With the AVR volume cranked up to around 90 these speakers are making the neighbors extremely mad! And the best thing about it is they have a lot more power they could handle before they even think about giving up. Very good speaker and buy with confidence!

The Ultimate Old School Speaker
I have owned these speakers for a little over a year now and I think I finally achieved the magic formula to really make these speakers perform. When I first received these Badboys, I bi-wired them from my Pioneer VSX-53TX receiver. The Pioneer at 110 watts RMS per channel was just not bringing out the true potential of these 400 watt rated cabs. Well I tapped into what I had learned as a musician of 30+ years working with some great sound engineers and decided to set it up like a pro sound system as these speakers give you the option to bi-amp. Being an audiophile on a budget I used the Pioneer receiver as my pre-amp and purchased two AB International amps on eBay. A Precedent series 600lx rated at 285 watts per side for the mids and highs, and a Precedent series 1100a at 525 watts per side for the subs. I then bought a Pyramid SEA 3000 crossover to control the separate amps along with an EQ placed in the signal path between the pre-amp and crossover for two channel listening. All I...

After hitting my mid life crisis in stride, went out and put together a home theater system based on research, past experience and reading reviews from consumer reports. Thanks everyone! So here's my take on it all. Since I had a pair of Cerwin Vegas when I was in high school. (they were your standard nice 3 ways). 30 some years later decided I needed to upgrade into a nice surround sound system. I started with the Yamaha RX V663 receiver 665W @95 per channel. Went on my past experience of Cerwin Vegas and came across these beautiful CLS-15 Loud speakers for my main front set. added a pair of Bose 301's for the mid level and a pair of JBL Stage tower speakers in the rear. Topped off with polk audio center channel. Now that combination sounds like a mutt of brands and size but believe me, it is a power punch of serious clear sound. These days small effecient loudspeakers are the trend and there are few choices if you're old school and believe that size really does matter. Even though I was unable to find a dealer close by where I could audition these speakers, I gambled by going ahead and purchasing a pair anyway.All things considered, I think they sound very good and believe that 8 out of 10 people would agree with me. The 2 that would'nt agree with me are most likely to be the super hi-fi connosisseur types with inflated egos and bank accounts. If its true that you get what you pay for, then I know that you can buy better sounding speakers. But I'm satisfied with the speakers performance.The manufacturer doesn't state the minimum power requirements to drive these speakers, only that they handle 500 watts peak. Sensitivity is 96 db 2.83v/1m so they are fairly efficient 8 ohm impedance speakers. Keeping to the rule that its better to have more power than you need as opposed to not having...

These monsters ROCK!
OrderOrdered two of these together actually just based on the reviews I had read on various websites. I am glad I decided to take a chance on these monsters. First of all, be prepared to deal with the size, these speakers are 4" tall and deep, not to mention the weight; each one coming in around 110 lbs.InstallationCarried one of these home since both would not fit in my car and hooking up to my Marantz SR8500 was a breeze. These speakers can be biampd so somewhere down the road, the preamp out from Marantz will drive couple of Crown amps. These speakers are rated 500W and the Marantz is capable of 175W per channel so I will be clipping the amp much sooner than these speakers. I ran out of space to put my subwoofer so temporarily placed it on top of these speakers..i know..not the best thing to do but I thought I will be replacing my sub with a Cerwin Vega as well.SoundNow for the first test, I played some Mozart just to get a feel for the...

They are Large and LOUD
Sound great, they need to be powered by more power than most home stereoreceivers have. I recomend a solid 250 rms to make them sing. A standard 100-110 rms receiver will not do these speakers justice.

If you want the real thing - This is it - What a sound !!!
Just received my speakers and could not wait to hear them. According to CV's website the XLS series replaced the CLS, with improved performance see also:[...]I never had Cervin Vega speakers and red a lot of reviews (all of them about the CLS), before I made a buying decision. Well, I was right. I hooked it up with my new Harman/Kardon HK3490 and used big fat jumper cables. The speaker limit is 500 Watt each. The Harman/Kardon produces 120 Watts at 8ohm per channel. The impedance of the speakers is 6ohm, so you can say we talking about 150 watts per channel. With 500 Watts to play with, 150 Watts is "under-motorized" you think? Well, let's go on....And now the test drives. I am the proud owner of a very rare Pink Floyd CD "Original Master Recording" - "Dark Side of the Moon" and guess what, this was my first pick.Pumping up the volume to - 10 db (the HK goes up to + 10db) I reached a level where the pictures on the wall begun to move and...

Cerwin Vega XLS-215
What can I say. These speakers are great. Have always been a Cerwin Vega fan. I own a pair of the AT series, VE series and CLS series. This is the new (2010) series XLS. These things sound great at all listening volumes. But don't be scared to turn them up when your favorite song is on. A real great sounding pair of speakers.

awsome xls-215
purchased a set of the xls-215s. im old school with my stereo equipment. im so glad i gave these a try. i still have my 3 way cerwin vegas. 15 inch subs. well i say i have them i gave them to my son. i hooked up the 2 new xls 215s and im pushing them with a pioneer sx-1250. 160 wpc. these speakers handle up to 500 watts. these things are awsome. the highs are so much better than the old speakers and the bass is AWSOME. my neighbor ask me what kind of speakers i had. he said they sounded good even in his garage. well any way if you dare to get a pair you wont need anymore. i think i have moved my house about 3 inches off the foundation. they also come with what they call party fuses. i dare not go there. any way A++++++++ for these speakers. highly recomended.
