A New Slant....
This book has some very different patterns in it, using some of the newer yarn that's available - I like that! And even for someone like me, who has been crocheting for over 30 years,there are tips, conversion charts, and the like which I've never seen in one place like this -- or put in such clear terms. There are also some very basic instructions included for beginners. This is a book anyone can use, regardless of their skill level, and I'd recommend it. Very easy to follow!

Some really cute bags, excellent instructions, ideas for variations...
Companion volume to Crochet Scarves, this book provides "15 hip projects for carrying your stuff." The first third of the text is devoted to helpful tutorials on crocheting techniques and is followed by a cute "Small Change" purse in two styles, a bobble-stitched purse made from suede yarn, cute, ruffly embellishment flowers, and much more.Some of my favorite projects include the "Fine Feathered Friend," a crocheted purse made of worsted-weight heavy-twist nylon yarn and real peacock feather trim, "Granny's New Bag" (yes, there are granny squares, but they're cool), and the "TuTu Cute Bag," which truly is.I appreciate the author's excellent instructions, her insistence that we check our stitch gauge for each project, and her fun variations. A great book for teens!

Want tons of compliments on your handbags?
I love this book! Lots of neat purses that are fun to make. I've encountered a few errors in the pattern instructions, but they're easy to figure out how to correct. The author uses expensive yarns, but you can easily substitute with Lion Brand or other good, less-expensive brands. Also, the crochet instructions at the front of the book are simple and easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this book.

Purchased for my Wife
I bought this for my wife last Christmas for one of her gifts. She is constantly taking projects with her to work and needed a good bag for holding all of her stuff.She uses it daily and has now for most of a year. The only thing with her though is she doen't just use it for her Knitting projects, she carries everything in it, but it is holding up just fine.

A Must-Have for Knitters, Crocheters & Crafters
This large, sturdy tote bag from Lion Brand was a surprise birthday gift from my husband. I love to crochet and this bag has lots of room for the yarn that is being used for my current project and my 'overflow' yarn. There is also a zippered pocket inside the bag that is big enough to store my crochet needle holder, plus 2 long skinny pockets for other needles, such as knitting needles. On the outside of the bag is a pocket with a velcro closure that is big enough to hold folders and/or books with knitting/crocheting/crafting patterns. The handles are sturdy and long, which makes it easy to sling over the shoulder. Probably the only thing I would have wanted on this bag would be a zipper closure instead of the snap closure, but that's really not too big of a deal. All in all, I do highly recommend the Lion Brand Yarn Tote Bag.

Product Description

Good and Bad
I have made only one bag so far - the pink shell bag. It was simple and looks great. I put some embellishments of my own on it. I can see making several of these bags for gifts, in different colors, different handles and trims. So for this pattern alone, it was worth the price.However, some of the designs are uninteresting or even seem unpolished or amateurish.

Hooked Bags
This book is well done and has several nice bags. All have beautiful colorful pictures. The directions are easy to follow, many could be done by a beginner. I have made one bag and plan to make at least five more from this book. I highly recommend this book for anyone that wants to make a crocheted bag that is not felted.

very useful
I bought this book on a whim as I have some of the author's earlier works which didn't impress me. But this new one is really excellent and I plan to buy the rest of the series as they come. I love the spiral binding too. Most of the items use normal easy-to-find cottons. Good colorful illustrations and well written instructions. Important informaton like gauge, hook size, etc is located on the right side of the page with instructions on the left. Each item shows also the yarn so you can see just how thick it looks, etc. Items I may just hook are the Kangaroo pouch shoulder bag, pocket bag of posies, summer stripes bag, hobo bag, Tunisian stripes big bag, and granny square bag. Back of book has ample illustrated instructions for stitches and lining and the back cover has a ruler for inches and centimeters. Bags are very in now and they don't use much yarn. I also have the VK crocheted bags book which I really don't like (check my review for that one)

Great projects!
I bought this book on a bit of an impulse, and am very pleased with the variety. Here is what I like about the book:1. Many different styles and sizes of bags.2. Spiral bound so the book lies flat.3. Nice pictures showing the finished project.4. A decent variety of yarn price points ( from expensive silk to lion cotton...but I will say that almost every bag is made out of some type of cotton yarn).5. Wonderful uses of stitches like the popcorn stitch and tunisian stitch.All in all, a great book to add to your collection of patterns. For beginners though, understand that this is not a book that teaches you how to crochet. It is a collection of patterns. I wish there was at least one felted bag in here though. Great job though!
